Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus (Coptic Script) The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus is perhaps the most important foundation work in the history of alchemy and the occult. Supposedly written by an ancient Egyptian sage, the tablet proclaims 13 edicts that explain the origin of the universe and the power of man achieved through the connection between the macrocosm and the microcosm. Hermes Trismegistus is also the author of the lauded Corpus Hermeticum. This painting captures the cryptic nature of the tablet by representing it phonetically in the Coptic script. When sounded out, the coptic letters in painting result in an English vocalization of the tablet. The text wraps around the sides of the painting as an ancient tablet would have done.
