Depicted are sections 198 and 199 of the code of Hammurabi, those that contain the famous 'eye for an eye' passage. The middle shows the passages in the original Babylonian, the left panel shows the passage in transliteration, the right panel is the english translation. The three panels are held together with metal hinges so that the piece can be placed on a tabletop.
